How Did It All Come About?
President and CEO - Bobby Letterman (Cherokee) played for many years with the Provo Blazers an All Indian Basketball Team. In 1982 They organized the Provo Indian Athletic Association, which later became the Indian Basketball Association. The Goal was to have different sports available for Native Americans to show their skills and abilities; To be recognized like their Hero - Jim Thorp. Then in 1995 Bobby became the Softball State Director and was surprised when attending the National Convention that there was every type of Specialty World Series with the only exception being that there was not a Native American one. He Decided that there definitely needed to be one as he knew many excellent Native American ball players. So in 1995 He held the First Native American World Series. That First year there were only 4 Teams in attendance. And from there it grew, and grew, and has been enjoyed by many. But his goals are not over with yet as he would like to see all sports played and to celebrate the many talents of the Native American Athlete. Also after his 25th year involved in Native American Sports Bobby Letterman started the NISA HALL OF FAME to again recognize the excellence of many athletes involved in the true love of Sports.
